On June 1, 2023 a session ‘Western Companies Are Leaving the Russian Market. What to Do in the Divorce' organized by Andrey Gorodissky& Partners was held within the frames of the St. Petersburg Legal Summit. The speaker team included both AGP lawyers Veronika Popelenskaya and Anatoly Sherstin and in-house lawyers of businesses from different sectors: Vitaly Eliseev of Gazpromheft Expert Solutions, Alexander Nikolaev of X5 Group and Evgeny Zhurba of Lanit IT Company. Thanks to this combination of speakers, the leave of foreign companies was discussed taking into account all aspects of multi-item intellectual property.
Of particular interest was the question of what to do if a foreign owner of software rights was leaving. The question triggered a lively discussion between the audience and the speakers of X5 Group and Lanit IT Company, who revealed the subject from the perspective of an end user of software and an intermediary company distributing foreign-owned software to Russian companies.
Also, the audience wondered how to deal with technology if the ownership thereof was retained by a leaving foreign company. The AGP lawyers addressed this question in detail and offered exhaustive answers.
